Joining our Community

We hope to always be a positive landing spot for students and provide a smooth transition for students looking to complete their program of study with us. In a transitional time, we strive to provide support and a clear path for graduation and professional success. To provide such information, we’ve created a special page just for transfer students to help you find the information you need when you need it.

The Process

TIMELINE + FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Step 1. Reach Out

Whether you attend an open house, come to one of our clinics, or complete a campus tour, reaching out will give you a chance to immerse yourself in AIMC. Open House dates and access to our Eventbrite can be found under "EVENTS" at the top of this page, but to receive a more personalized conversation and information, reach out by requesting more information.

Step 2. Apply

Once you've chosen the right academic program for you and that you want to join us at AIMC, applying online and sending over your official transcripts will allow us to start the transfer credit evaluation process.

Step 3. Transfer Credit Evaluation

Your application starts all of the necessary steps. Under normal circumstances, a transfer evaluation can take up to 2 weeks depending on how fast your transcripts arrive. If your school has closed its doors and we are stepping in as a teachout partner, the influx of students transferring at once may cause delays. However, we will have additional communications and advising sessions to accommodate these circumstances.

Step 4. Advising

Once we have a clear picture of your academic career, we will be able to properly advise you on your program. Every student is unique, and advising can help you connect with AIMC personnel and form a clear degree plan.

FAQ

Which of my classes will transfer?

Not all programs have the same requirements. Part of this is due to states varying in requirements for licensure, but part is due to freedom among schools to make programs their own. Some schools may have a robust requirement for mind body curriculum, such as taiji and qigong. Other schools may require more in biomedicine, such as schools who are accredited for the California Acupuncture Board (CAB). Every student is unique, and we will do our best to make sure that your transfer process is conducive to the best possible educational experience and set you up for success for your board exams and life after acupuncture school.

What happens when you have less hours in a particular subject area than what is required by AIMC?

If you have at least 50% of the total hours required for that area, you will be eligible for a contest exam. If you have less than 50%, you will be required to take courses to make up the difference. What happens if you have more credits than you need in a particular subject area? Sometimes courses serve two different purposes, and they may be able to count somewhere else. However, once a program requirement is met, it is met. There is no way to count credits toward a different area of study with different learning outcomes.

What are some other important transfer credit policies?

Students may only transfer up to 50% of the credits for the program to which they are applying. (In the case of school closure, there may be a waiver in place to allow more.) For students who took a course with less contact hours than the required course for AIMC, they will be eligible for a contest exam if the hours completed are at least 50% of the requirement for the individual course. Decisions can only be finalized based on formal transcripts.

Education at AIMC

By leveraging technology and modern approaches to education, we created a model in Austin at the start of 2024 that we believe can be replicated over and over. We’ve centralized services and embraced hybrid education, online classes blended with meaningful hands-on learning and community building.

What to Expect

Your application starts it all. All students apply through one universal application where you will find a few special selections just for you. Once we receive your application, your transfer evaluation fee and your official transcripts, we can begin evaluating your transfer credits.

Our Locations

Berkeley, CA is where AIMC started its journey and first grew roots. In 2024, we expanded to Austin, TX, the "live music capital of the world." Both cities have so much to offer students, but no matter where you choose for your in-person experience, you'll always experience our broader community online.
